RIP DAVENPORT

NOT PERFECT. NOT FAMOUS. JUST STUBBORNLY PRESENT.

Ultra-Endurance.
Water Safety.
Emergency Response.

PREHOSPITAL & MARITIME RESPONSE

I've spent much of my life in environments where calm isn't optional.

From emergency medical response and water rescue to humanitarian operations and complex-needs support, the settings have changed, but the principles have remained remarkably similar.

Stay calm.

Pay attention.

Be useful.

Over the years I've worked as a Medical First Responder, Emergency Medical Responder, Rescue Swimmer, Lifeguard Supervisor and water-safety professional.

I've supported emergency incidents on land and at sea, worked alongside multidisciplinary teams, and operated in environments where clear thinking matters more than noise.

My background combines prehospital emergency care, maritime operations, behavioural-incident support and risk management.

Whether responding to a medical emergency, supporting a vulnerable individual, or operating in a challenging environment, my approach remains the same: assess the situation, communicate clearly, and do the next right thing.

EMERGENCY & PREHOSPITAL CARE

My training and operational experience include:

EMT-level emergency medical response

Medical First Responder (MFR)

Emergency Medical Responder (EMR)

First Person on Scene (FPOS)

A-E assessment

Airway management (OPA/NPA)

BVM ventilation

AED operation and cardiac-arrest response

Trauma care and bleeding control

Shock management

Triage and incident assessment

SBAR communication and structured handover

Dispatcher-assisted CPR

Spinal-injury awareness and trauma-scene management

Experience has taught me that emergencies rarely unfold exactly as expected.

Technical skills matter, but so do judgement, communication and the ability to remain steady when others are relying on you.

WATER RESCUE & MARITIME OPERATIONS

Water has been a constant throughout my life.

My operational experience includes rescue swimming, open-water response, maritime safety, lifeguarding, water-rescue instruction and humanitarian rescue operations.

While serving in the Royal Navy, I worked as a SONAR operator, Ship's Diver and Swimmer of the Watch, carrying out underwater inspections, searches, firefighting and damage-control duties. Those years reinforced the importance of discipline, situational awareness and teamwork under pressure.

Since then I've continued to work in maritime and rescue environments, supporting safety operations, training personnel and contributing to water-rescue capability across both civilian and professional settings.

humanitarian OPERATIONS

During the European migrant crisis, I served with MOAS onboard the Topaz Responder, an ERRV, as a Rescue Swimmer and supporting medic in the Aegean Sea.

The work involved water rescue, recovery, casualty care, patient handling, safety coordination and close cooperation with maritime, medical and civil-protection teams.

The experience reinforced a lesson that applies far beyond emergency response: People rarely remember what qualifications you hold.

They remember whether you remained calm when things became difficult.

BEHAVIOURAL INCIDENTS, RISK & COMPLEX-NEEDS SUPPORT

Alongside emergency and maritime work, I've spent many years supporting individuals with complex needs, cognitive impairment, autism, developmental disabilities and behavioural challenges.

This work requires patience, structure and consistency.

Most situations are not solved through force or authority. They are resolved through communication, predictable routines, risk awareness and maintaining a calm environment.

My approach is always person-centred, safety-focused and grounded in dignity and respect.

TRAINING, COMPLIANCE & PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT

I maintain current training and certification across healthcare, safeguarding, infection control, manual handling, emergency response, behavioural-incident management and safety compliance.

This includes extensive AMRIC infection-control training, safeguarding adults and children, GDPR, IDDSI dysphagia standards, conflict management, risk awareness and a CPD-accredited Diploma in Mental Health.

professional approach

The environments have varied.

The principles have not.

Stay calm.

Pay attention.

Be useful.

And, whenever possible,

Don't be shit.
